Julie
Hi! My name is Julie and I teach ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have always loved traveling, teaching, and learning about different languages, cultures, and the people within those cultures.. My first experience abroad was visiting my relatives in The Philippines as a young girl. During high school my family hosted Spanish exchange students and it was with them that I had a chance to use my Spanish speaking skills. I loved it! In college I spent 6 months living in Mexico City as a college student. After graduating college with my teaching degree, I decided to join the United States Peace Corps. I lived and taught English in Kenya for 2 years. After my time in the Peace Corps, I returned to the U.S. and moved to California. In California I taught high school Spanish and I even taught first grade for one year (that was TOUGH). I then decided that I really wanted to teach ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages). I missed interacting with people from other cultures and I was interested in teaching adults. I then spent two years studying and finally earned my Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). In 2005, my husband and son moved to Connecticut and we have been here ever since. I absolutely LOVE teaching ESOL and love my students, too. I am excited about starting this semester with a new class website and I look forward to watching the website and the class grow.
