On Tuesday night we will read an article in "Easy English News" about Obesity in the United States.  After we read and discuss the article, we will head to the computer lab and do our first ever Webquest.  If you can't wait until Tuesday, following this link and you'll be able to see what is in store for us!

I saw "Argo" on Saturday night and thought that it might be interesting to ask you about any movies you have seen lately.  Are there any movies you would recommend?  What are your favorite movies of all time?

For your information, I liked "Argo", but didn't really care for all of the Hollywood characteristics of it, especially the super close calls.  Too Hollywood for me.  As for my favorite movie?  "Casablanca".  It's just a timeless classic.

The snow is slowly melting and we are beginning to see signs of spring.  All of these signs remind me of how beautiful Connecticut is during the spring.  I love watching the flowers bloom and hearing the birds sing.  What is your favorite season?  What do you like about it?

Welcome back, everyone!  It has been a long two weeks and I am really looking forward to seeing all of your beautiful faces in class tomorrow.  Tomorrow night will also be our first official "Computer Class".  Rissa, our IT Specialist, will be teaching you some computer skills and hopefully you will have some time in class to practice those skills.  You will also have time to work on your webpages.  On Thursday we will have time for a few students to present their web pages to the class.  Let me know if you want to present your page to the class on Thursday, OK?

For tomorrow's lesson, be prepared to tell us about your own blizzard experience.  We will talk about the blizzard, share our experiences, and yes, write about them in class.  Warm up your pencils and be ready to write!

That's right!  There is no school tomorrow :(.  "Waaaaah!" says Shayna!  I agree.  It looks like our next class will be after February break (if we still have February break).  I hope you all are well and your streets are safe and plowed.  I thought it might be a good idea if you had the link to the Town of Hamden ready, so here it is: www.hamden.com. I know that many of you have probably received phone calls from Mayor Jackson, and realize that you might want to have the opportunity to hear them again. So, if you go to www.hamden.com, you can click on the "automated phone calls", and you will be able to read the Mayor's words.

Good luck to you all and see you soon?  Keep studying, reading, speaking, and listening to English!

Julie

Good morning, Students!  I am just checking in with you all and making sure that you all made it through the storm safe and sound.  Did you realize that Hamden got record amounts of snow and even got the record for the most snow accumulation in all of New England at 40"?  WOW!

I want to invite you all to send me photos that you have taken of the snow and I will post them to our photo page dedicated to the blizzard.  Also, feel free to add photos of the storm to your own web pages, OK?

You can let us know that you are OK by clicking on "reply" below and writing a little update of what you have been up to.  I am looking forward to hearing from you all.  Julie

BTW, that is my silly son on top of a snow mountain.  He is thrilled!

Hello everyone!  I just added a few websites to our ESOL Resources page.  They all have to do with modals and different ways to explain them.  Please feel free to post any websites you find helpful (especially about modals) here on the blog.  I will try to add them to our ESOL Resources page as soon as I can.  Thanks,
Julie

Hello, students!  I hope that you enjoyed your day off yesterday.  On Thursday, we looked at the class website.  I am wondering what you think of it?  What do you like about it?  What would you like to change or add?  I would really appreciate your feedback, so please write a comment below.  Remember, if you comment on the blog by Friday, January 25, you will get "English Bucks" that can be used to go towards a prize at the end of the semester.  I am looking forward to hearing what you think.

Wow!  I can't believe how many students came to class tonight!  It was great!  I am really looking forward to working with you all and to help get you closer to achieving your learning goals.

Well, here I am in Hartford at a workshop that will teach me how to build a website for our class.  This is a bit overwhelming, but with a little more practice I think this website is going to be very useful for our class.  I hope that we will use this website to help us learn more about English, computers, grammar, and culture.  In addition to all of that, I hope that this website will help us build and strengthen our classroom community.  I can't wait to share it!
